Maruti Suzuki organizes Women Car Rally in Pune

Whether it is about selling cars or organizing motorsports activities, Maruti Suzuki has always been the frontrunner in the Indian automotive industry. With events such as the Raid-de-Himalaya, Desert Storm, Dakshin Dare etc., which are being held yearly without fail, the manufacturer has been continuously encouraging enthusiasts to actively participate in motorsports. Moving forward on similar lines so as to promote and strengthen women participation in motorsports, Maruti Suzuki concluded an all women car rally in Pune recently.

The one-day event was held over a 120-kilometer route in and around the Pune city and was flagged off from Hotel Four Points. The initiative got tremendous reception from fairer sex as over 82 Maruti Suzuki cars, all driven by women, turned up for the competition. The contest saw participants showcase their motoring skills and agility at navigating the driver to finish the rally precisely.

Manohar Bhat, Vice President, Marketing, Maruti Suzuki said, “Maruti Suzuki has been associated with motorsports for over 2 decades. Each year, we have seen increasing interest from women motorsports enthusiasts. The women car rally is a good opportunity for women motorsport enthusiasts to gauge their preparedness for some bigger rallies – like Maruti Suzuki Raid-de-Himalaya, Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm and Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare. Besides, rallying teaches road discipline and helps us promote road safety. The driving skills like enhanced braking, skid correction, tackling multiple terrains etc which participants pick up during motorsport events like this rally, have an immediate impact on improving the safety during real time driving.”

Lamborghini Aventador spontaneously combusts on the Autobahn

An orange example of the Lamborghini Aventador has recently met its end on the German Autobahn after it “decided” to burst into flames.

An engine swap should have made this Lamborghini Aventador a better car but unfortunately it has brought it to its end. According to the guys from Wrecked Exotics, the Italian supercar in question has received a new engine which wasn’t so good. The unit has quickly overheated and eventually caught fire, completely destroying the 6-figure supercar by the time the firefighters got to the scene. The incident took place on the Autobahn, in Germany, and hopefully the vehicle was insured.

We’re not sure what happened to the driver but judging by the images posted below, he probably managed to get away from the fireball in time to save his life. If you have more details on the subject, please feel free to share. The Lamborghini Aventador has replaced the Murcielago back in 2011. The model is continuing the tradition of large naturally aspirated V12 engines with its 6.5 liter unit which is providing 690 HP (510 kW) and 690 Nm (510 lb-ft) of torque. The 0 to 100 km/h acceleration takes just 3 seconds and the top speed stands at 350 km/h (217 mph).

Honda Going to Launch the 7 seater MPV FREED

NEW DELHI: After challenging market leader Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire with Amaze in the compact sedan segment, Japanese carmaker Honda plans to take on the country's best-selling multi-purpose vehicle Toyota Innova by driving in a second utility vehicle in 2016.

Honda Car India plans to bring in the next generation of its globally successful MPV Freed, which is expected to be launched in ASEAN markets mid next year, to take on the Innova, two people familiar with the development said. It will follow Honda Mobilio, a 7-seater crossover utility vehicle being built on the Brio hatchback platform that would be unveiled at Delhi Auto Expo in February.

Honda and Toyota are working on the next-generation Freed and Innova, respectively, with both due for full model change. "Both cars are under design right now and it would interesting to see how Honda takes on an well established product which was ruling the market with no competition since its debut," said a person familiar with India strategy of both the carmakers.

A Honda Car India spokesperson, however, said the company currently does not have any plans to launch the Freed in India. "However, we are actively looking at the MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) segment and plan to launch the Honda Mobilio next year," the spokesperson said. The two industry insiders quoted earlier, however, said the Freed will hit the Indian market two years down the line.

Force Gurkha RFC India 2014 has 4 levels of increasing difficulties; Prologue, Predator, Terminator and Twilight. The participants have to complete all 30 Special Stages across a multitude of obstacles, to be declared as overall winners. However given the fact that the event is in its first year in India, the seven classes and 2 overall rankings – with one for foreign entries and another for Indian entries – have been kept flexible.

Ashish Gupta; Founder and Director Cougar Motorsport stated, “It will be interesting to see how well Indian off-roaders stand up to unpredictable jungles amidst perpetually wet conditions without losing their cool. This event paves way for the off roading in India. I am happy to also announce that the winning team in this challenge will get an automatic entry to the RFC event in Malaysia. ”
